Owning a pet is more than posting cute photos — it is a daily responsibility that includes providing food, clean water, shelter, healthcare, and affection.
If You Cannot Care for It, It’s Better Not to Start
Poverty is not a fault, nor is it shameful. But choosing to raise an animal without the means to care for it properly becomes a form of injustice. Leaving a pet hungry, sick, or neglected in unsafe conditions is an act of cruelty, even if done unintentionally. In such cases, it is far kinder and more respectful to let the animal remain in its natural environment or to refrain from ownership altogether.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“There is a reward for kindness to every living being.”

He also warned against cruelty, telling the story of a woman who was punished for imprisoning a cat without feeding it or letting it eat freely, and of a man who was forgiven and entered Paradise because he gave water to a thirsty dog.
